Pasta casserole with broccoli

Ingredients:

  • Pasta – 150 g;
  • Broccoli – 300 g;
  • Hard cheese – 150 g;
  • Milk – 400 ml;
  • Butter – 40 g;
  • Flour – 20 g (2 heaped teaspoons);
  • Onion – 140 g (1 onion);
  • Garlic – 2 cloves;
  • Nutmeg (grated) – a pinch;
  • Salt – to taste;
  • Freshly ground pepper (pepper mix) – a pinch;
  • Vegetable oil (for greasing the pan) – 15 ml (1 tablespoon)

This delicious casserole of boiled pasta and healthy broccoli with a unique sauce made with fried onions, milk, and cheese is a wonderful dinner dish for the whole family. To make this casserole, you’ll need the following ingredients: Макароны из твердых сортов пшеницы, medium broccoli, cheese, onion, milk, butter, garlic, flour, nutmeg, salt, and pepper.

  1. First, gather all the ingredients. You can use any type of pasta, but durum wheat is best.
  2. Wash the broccoli thoroughly and break it into medium-sized florets.
  3. To prepare the casserole, bring 1-1.5 liters of water to a boil, add a pinch of salt, and add the broccoli. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Using a slotted spoon, remove the broccoli from the pan and place it on a plate.
  5. Bring the remaining cooking water to a boil and cook the pasta for 8-12 minutes (or 1-2 minutes less than the package directions). Drain the cooked pasta in a colander.
  6. Meanwhile, while the pasta is cooking, preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit).
  7. Peel and finely dice the onion.
  8. Heat a frying pan, add the butter, onion, and garlic, peeled and pressed through a garlic press.
  9. Sauté the onion and garlic over low heat for 5-7 minutes, until translucent. Then add the flour and cook for another 1-2 minutes, stirring.
  10. Pour the milk into the pan, stirring constantly. Cook the sauce over low heat for 5-7 minutes, stirring, until thickened.
  11. Grate the cheese coarsely.
  12. Add half the cheese to the pan. Add a pinch of salt, pepper, and grated nutmeg. Mix well until the cheese is completely melted (1-2 minutes).
  13. Remove the pan from the heat.
  14. Grease a baking dish with vegetable oil. Spread the pasta in an even layer on the bottom of the dish.
  15. Arrange the broccoli florets on top.
  16. Pour the prepared sauce over the pasta and broccoli and smooth the surface.
  17. Sprinkle with the remaining grated cheese. Place the dish in a preheated oven and bake at 180 degrees Celsius for 20-25 minutes (depending on your oven).

Your casserole is ready. Serve it hot to your whole family, while the cheese oozes deliciously.
